Such type of maps is widespread in certain branches like ski resorts pictures. As for pictorial map this type is focused on the details, but not at following precise sizes. Individual objects are portrayed with their distinguishing features and, therefore, are easily distinguishable. On the other hand, distances do not always correspond with the reality, sometimes the landscape can be slightly reduced or distorted since the stress is placed on the representation of objects. The given type of maps enjoys wide popularity because of their nice looks, self-descriptiveness and easiness in use. Despite scale distortions they are very convenient for navigating when planning a tour or seeking a certain place. |
